No Ban on FaceTime in Middle East: Works With iPod Touch 4G

There was that big news item that Middle East countries, especially Saudi Arabia has imposed ban on FaceTime in the Arab World. The first indicator of such “ban” was reported by 9 to 5 Mac when some of Apple’s Middle Eastern iPhone websites posted that FaceTime is not available in some parts of Middle East. Next was DU, a Middle Eastern carrier, who announced that FaceTime would not be available in the Middle East for the reasons beyond their contro. Later on, with its support document produced, Apple alo confirmed the reports that the Middle East won’t be getting the magical FaceTime.

Macstories in its post of Sept 20, had already expressed its fear about this all to happen. It was opined that this has something to do with Saudi Arabia’s government. If you recall, they once banned BlackBerry phones because of encryption they couldn’t monitor.

This all proved wrong when 9to5Mac via iRamadah reported that FaceTime in fact,  does work all over the Middle East countries with the 4th generation iPod touch. This is a big news an major development as it clearly proves that this is a carrier restriction and has nothing to do with Apple or Middle Eastern governments banning FaceTime. One more important thing to note about this ban is that, the FaceTime on iPhone 4 only works over WiFi no matter what device being used.   [Via 9to5Mac]
